Mussa wardak curative clinic is named after the founder major general of afghan armed forces professor Mussa Wardak was also the father of orthopedics in Afghanistan. He founded the orthopedic school and was an academician of medical sciences. Originally it was founded in Kabul city in 1991 to provide cheap specialized medical services in field of orthopedics and trauma to the nation. Since Afghanistan is in continues civil war since 1978 making the country home for great number of handicaps being war victims and most of the population living below poverty line making it heaven for social orthopedic problems like polio and spine TB. All these problems made the founder to open doors for these victims and provide specialized help to decrease number of handicaps and provide them better quality of life. Continues war and insecurity had made it almost impossible for private, nonprofit able health organizations and even government health sector to provide 1st aid medical care, but despite all this the clinic continued to offer medical services though because of the war the clinic was shifted to many different cities across the country.

The specific initial goal was to offer specialized medical services in field of orthopedics and trauma. Since Afghanistan is in continues civil war since 1978 making the country home for great number of handicaps being war victims and most of the population living below poverty line making it heaven for social orthopedic problems like polio and spine. And due to insecurity and lack specialized medical help most of the population had to travel to neighboring countries for specialized medical services most them being trauma and orthopedic issues.

Other goals were as following:

  1. To start off with one center in the capital city of Afghanistan and then expand to other major cities to provide help those in need.
  2. Bring to the country modern diagnostic and treatment techniques
  3. Train medical personal 
  4. Provide mobile health services

Instability, insecurity, and war in afghanistan had great impact on executing the goals planned. But despite all these problems the clinic continued to reach its goals through these tough times, but because of the war the clinic was shifted to many different cities across the country. The founder of the clinic opened the clinic by introducing the Ilizarov method in 1991 which decreased the number amputation almost to half and also helped those with orthopedic deformities improving life quality. In 2002 in the history of Afghanistan medicine for the 1st time hemi hip replacement was done by the founder of the clinic and then also for the 1st time in the country the clinic introduced modern total hip joint replacement and knee joint replacement in 2008, so far the clinic being the only certified joint replacement center with over 5000 joint replacements made. In 2006 in field of diagnostics for the first time in Afghanistan MRI and CT scan machines were installed by the clinic and now there was no more any need for the people to travel abroad to get scans done. Another goal was achieved as the clinic introduced 2017 gamma camera in Afghanistan and at moment we are the only center having such a machine. Despite of continuous civil war, lack of electricity, insecurity, without any financial support and many other challenges the clinic continued to offer medical services in field of orthopedic and trauma. The clinic introduced many surgical methods, technology and diagnostic method for the first time in the country, cutting the need for people to travel abroad, decreasing rate of handicaps and improving life quality.
